There is really nothing much about Kamloops what I like. The town is quite average. It's growing bigger but not really getting nicer. The hills and the entire lanscape around the town are boring. We stopped there on our way to Halcyon for lunch, which became a challenge on its own -- there were not too many restaurants in the town. And most of all, their owners weren't dog friendly. We found one family restaurant but got a problem trying to keep our dog outside near it, the waitress was not too happy about it. So we left and stopped at Pizza Hut. We spent a couple of hours in the town park by the river. We got into a problem with the dog again; the dogs aren't allowed into the park even on the leash. The good thing was the ice cream as you can see on the pictures.

Kamloops is located on the Thompson river. The river is named by Simon Fraser after the Northwest Trading Company's explorer/topographer David Thompson. One of the pictures above shows the tide levels in different years. The very top one, close to the top on the monument shows the level of the tide in 1894. I believe that was the year of the famous Hope flood.
